GO GREEN GIRLS - A Special Program for the Girls Scouts Thinking Day Event
Based on ideas from my book, Eco-Friendly Families, this child centered program will inspire
participants to Go Green! Attendants will learn how to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle household
items, be invited to participate in hands on activities and leave with their own personalized canvas
bag. Girls will appreciate the fun and functional ideas that they can do on their own, while parents
will learn why Earth Day can be everyday when we make going green a family affair.
Program highlights to include:

The Complete Idiot's Guide to Reading with your Child
Building a Literacy Rich Home – Suggestions and Strategies for Raising Readers for Life
Based on my book, The Complete Idiot's Guide to Reading With Your Children, this
program will help parents design and implement a natural and rewarding reading
environment where the emphasis is on process, progress and enjoyment, not designer
products or arbitrary standards. I will offer several hands on reading strategies which
address the whole family, drawing on my experience as an educator, author and parent.
Program highlights to include:
Literacy Begins at Home - assessing where you are as a family of readers, where
you want to go, and the best way to get there
Crib Notes: Introducing Books to Your Baby and Toddler - we will take a look at
effective ways to introduce your children to books by creating an accessible reading
environment and establishing a firm, but always fun, reading routine.
I Think I Can, I Think I Can: Encouraging Emergent Readers - a wonderful
opportunity to encourage emergent readers to actively participate in their learning
process with hands on games and family focused activities geared towards
reading fun.
